Call for Expressions of Interest

Host DICTA 2028

Invitation to the Australian computer vision, image processing and pattern recognition community

The Australian Pattern Recognition Society (APRS) invites Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from teams across Australia to organise and host the International Conference on Digital Image Computing: Techniques and Applications (DICTA 2028) in an Australian city.

About DICTA and APRS

Established in 1991, DICTA is the flagship conference of APRS and one of Australia's premier forums for computer vision, digital image processing, pattern recognition, machine learning and related areas. The conference brings together researchers, students, industry practitioners and international experts to present advances, build collaborations and strengthen Australia's research community.

What to include in your EOI

  • Host city, dates and venue: proposed Australian city, indicative dates, venue options, capacity and accessibility.
  • Conference Organising Committee: proposed General Chair(s), Program Chair(s), Finance/Treasurer, Local Arrangements and other key roles.
  • Conference vision and pitch: why the proposed city and organising team can deliver an outstanding DICTA experience.
  • Tentative program and format: keynotes, technical sessions, workshops/tutorials, industry engagement, networking and social activities where applicable.
  • Indicative budget: a clear Excel-based budget covering expected registrations and other income, venue and catering, publication/technical costs, social functions, sponsorship and other major expenditure. Assumptions should be transparent and financially realistic.
  • Sponsorship and industry engagement: potential sponsors, local partners and a preliminary engagement strategy.
  • Team capability and institutional support: relevant conference experience, local support and resources available to the proposed committee.
  • Distinctive initiatives: ideas that could enhance research quality, international visibility, community participation, industry engagement and the delegate experience.

At the EOI stage, all arrangements may be tentative. Venue bookings, sponsorship commitments, program details and budget figures may be refined following shortlisting and subsequent APRS discussion.

Selection process

APRS will review submitted EOIs and shortlist the strongest proposals. Shortlisted organising teams will be invited to present their DICTA 2028 bid at the APRS Annual General Meeting during DICTA 2026, to be held at Rydges Sydney Central, Sydney, Australia, from 2-4 December 2026.

The presentation will provide an opportunity for each shortlisted team to present its proposed city, organising committee, conference vision, venue and program concept, financial plan and distinctive value, and to respond to questions from the APRS community.
